high end
- oracle financial
- sap
medium
- ms great plains

small
quickbooks

companies use one of these depending upon the size and complexity of business it would wise to have knowledge on one from each category unless you are sure of the size of compan you will be working for

If you are fairly good at using Quickbooks and have some general accounting experience with debits/credits/balance sheets and the like, it may not be necessary. It may be a good practical idea, though, as a well versed accountant can guide you through your tax year and let you know how to take charge of investing and using your profits and how to do your taxes properly.

If the business is simple enough, you may decide not to have an accountant for the whole year, just have him do your taxes.

Quick Books Professional – When you install Quick Books and set up your company, it will give a list of areas that you are in. It does not have to be programmed to suit your needs and the software is very user friendly.

And it must have multi-currency ability (not like MS Accounting Professional, where only Bank and Credit can be set for foreign currency), preferably up to 6 decimal places conversion rate (unfortunately Quickbooks failed at that), and functional payroll? It is for small business, so I am not expecting anything worth thousands. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

I am a masseuse and need something really easy to keep track of my billings and mainly the small stuff I spend money on every day like supplies etc, I have tried some of the stuff out there and it’s really too complicated forme

It may seem like overkill, but I still would recommend Quickbooks. It’s comprehensive, and geared toward an accounting novice.

It also makes it much easier (and cheaper) if you use an accountant at the end of your when you use a package they are familiar with. It also allows you to generate reports that really give you the current status of the business.

Peachtree is trying, but Quickbooks is the leader right now. And it’s a better program, in my opinion.
