Why is Bob Jones University and some other Christian colleges opposed to regional accreditation?

Question by Priรciℓℓα ✟: Why is Bob Jones University and some other Christian colleges opposed to regional accreditation?
I have been reading about the long and sordid history of Bob Jones University, and I read that for a very long time they were opposed to all forms of accreditation. Then, somewhat recently they gave in and sought accreditation from TRACS, which really doesn’t count at all. I read they only did this because of the increase in Diploma Mills. They still refuse to seek regional accreditation, which is the only kind that even matters.

I’m going to a very conservative Bible college (Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, PA) in January, and we are fully accredited by Middle States and ABHE. And I know my school would not accept accreditation if it meant compromising on some important issue, because the school has refused to join certain evangelical college organizations because of serious doctrinal deficiencies.

So what’s the deal with BJU and some other colleges? Why the refusal to become a “real” college, if you will?

I think it’s good that they avoid accreditation. It should be saved for places of education, not indoctrination.

Maybe it’s because they can’t get accreditation, and this is their way of covering it up.

The accreditation that Bob Jones has is accepted in almost all major graduate schools, and the military, which requires its officers to possess an accredited bachelors degree also accept Bob Jones graduates. So to say it doesn’t count is nonsense. All medical schools accept them also, so I just don’t get what you mean by they don’t count. They have fought accreditation to keep the school the way they feel the bible should run it. Most accrediting agencies dont agree with the curriculum so they dont qualify for many. But their graduates are very respected, and like I said, almost, if not all, graduate programs accept Bob Jones graduates. And they do not Indoctrinate their students. They have strict, and I mean strict, rules. Most of which they dont even believe are from the bible, they just want disciplined students. I am currently a student at BJU and I serve in the Air Force reserves and want to become an officer. and like I said, the military accepts the degrees.
